Boise Larrikins Hash House Harriers (BLH3)

STUFF ABOUT BLH3

Why?  To provide weekend hashing in Boise including all trail “Shiggy”

What is Hashing?  Hashing is a non-competitive collaborative running game.  These runs are not races; there are no awards for the swift.  Following the trail is the challenge; camaraderie and beer are the rewards.  Those who lay the trail are the Hares, and those who follow it are the Hounds.  The first hashing group was formed in 1938 in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia .  They named themselves the "Hash House Harriers" because they often gathered at a place nicknamed the Hash House "for its unimaginative, monotonous food" according to the home page of "The Hash House Harriers, Kuala Lumpur”, www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Mound/8678/

For worldwide hashing information see www.gotothehash.net and for the United States see www.half-mind.com

What are Hashers like?  We are fun loving runners of all abilities who enjoy trail running, have a great sense of humor, have a good-natured wild side, are not easily offended, and are of legal drinking age (currently 21 and over).  The responsible enjoyment of beer is preferred, but is not required.  Hashing is not for everyone, but it MAY be for you, and all you need is half-a-mind to try it!

What are Larrikins?  Larrikins are people given to comical or outlandish behavior.  They are mischievous, frolicsome, and rowdy.  They are also known for their irreverence, mockery, disregard for rigid norms of propriety, and self-depreciating humor.  This definition was created from various on-line dictionaries; those used by the other Larrikin hashes, and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larrikin

Are there other Larrikin hashes?  There are.  Sydney South Harbour HHH, Australia , is known as "The Larrikin Hash" and was founded in 1979.  In the USA we know of the "Carolina Larrikins H3" of Raleigh , the "California Larrikin H3" of San Diego , the "Bay Area Larrikin's H3" of Corpus Christi , Texas , and the "Arizona Larrikins Mr. Happy Pick-Up H3" of Tucson .

  HASH RUN SCHEDULE

~ Virgin Run:  Saturday March 22, 2008 coinciding with the 2008 Perth World Interhash, thereby celebrating the Australian origin of Larrikinism, and being the day before Easter.  Hash Time/Drinkin' Time will be 2:69 (that's 3:09 for the 69-impaired), with the pre-run Chalk Talk beginning at 3:30.  Our hares will be Wetback Mount Him & DWI.  The Location is the Quarry View Park next to the Old Idaho Penitentiary.

~ Schedule:  After our Virgin Run (see above), beginning on April 5, 2008 we will hash once-a-month on the First Saturday of every month.  We may move some runs to Friday nights, or another day, if it is a full moon or the spirits move us.  We may also add a run, or a pub crawl, for similar reasons.  See the Receding Hare Line Schedule for specific dates.

~ Time:  “Hash Time” a.k.a “Drinkin' Time” will be 2:69 (that's 3:09 for the 69-impaired), with the pre-run "Circle" aka "Chalk Talk" beginning at 3:30.  If we're gathering in a bar go buy yourself a beer and say hi, elsewhere the hares will have beer for you so seek it out!

~ Cost:  The hash cash will be $5 per run for everyone, except Virgins are free and the Hares don't pay 'cause they are paying the day's hash expenses.  Thus visitors pay, transfers pay, and no one is free because they "aren't staying for the on-in", or "not drinking or eating", however if someone absolutely can't or won't drink beer we'll try to provide alternative beverages.  Some or all of the hash cash collected, depending upon current policy, will be turned over to the hares to offset some of their out-of-pocket costs.  Current policy is that no money will be withheld for hash expenses (web site, haberdashery, printing, etc) or to build money to fund a future "special event".
